Process:The Import Process is very simple as long as you are aware of all the rules and play by them. If a Customer from Canada finds a dream bike here, Canadian residents can import vehicles to Canada if they want to. Documents are required to be filed with the Border and a 3 day hold is mandatory. But the process is easy and can be pain free.
Customs & Border Information packet
Finding a bike is the first StepThen an import package is a good thing to have. Mt Baker Harley Davidson can email this package or it can be downloaded from our website. This “package” is made up of 2 things, an Customs & Border Information packet and Vehicle & Equipment Worksheet. The Worksheet is the important paper. It has information you will need to get on the vehicle being imported. This needs to be submitted with copies of the Title and a Bill of Sale and a Safety Recall form, all of which we provide you with. You can even fill out the package at your home and submit by email, if you like, we can email the forms directly to your email for this purpose.
What happens most of the time is, somebody comes down and likes a bike, but doesn’t realize it until they get home to Canada. No worries. We can email as stated above, then you submit your package to the border on email as stated in the information packet.

Your 72 hr hold starts then. After you have 72 hrs or have verified with the border you are cleared to import, you can come down only one more time. This usually saves a day.
On the day of import, you come down and take care of the payment. Then, you will be given the Original Documents that you have already submitted. Original Documents are required, no exceptions. We will provide you with a trip ticket, $30 fee, so you may drive on the road from the Dealership to the border. Then you sail across the border because you have done your homework and all is good.
You are now in Canada, but not home yet. You will again have to fill out a similar Canadian import form in person, and they will collect HST taxes. They will also provide you with a trip ticket to legally drive on the road until you can get your Canadian registration taken care of. Your next stop will be with the ICBC or similar acronym, to have this done. They will assist you with plates and an insurance sticker.
